As everything in our lives has become digital, our daily exposure to blue light has increased exponentially and our skin may be feeling the negative effects. Blue light, also known as high-energy visible light (HEV), is present in visible sunlight and in the illumination of digital screens. Because of its longer wavelength, it can cause as much damage to your skin as the sun.
For example, eight hours of screen time can be equivalent to 20 minutes of sun exposure.
Although your skin does not visibly burn as it would from unprotected sun exposure and is not known to cause skin cancer, unlike UV light, blue light nevertheless potentially contributes to skin ageing by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the skin.
These reactive oxygen species, or free radicals, cause oxidative damage to the skin, which can lead to wrinkles and fine lines and contribute to premature aging. In addition, screens that emit blue light are exceptionally close to our face, so high frequency blue light – which can penetrate deeper into the skin than UV-A or UV-B light – will make a difference.
In addition, blue light increases the production of melanin in a process called melanogenesis, which results in skin discolouration. For people with sensitive skin or who struggle with hyperpigmentation or melasma, it is therefore even more important to take preventive measures.

In traditional medicine, Buddleja, a shrub of the Loganiaceae family, is known for its healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Soliberin counteracts the negative effects of light radiation on the skin. It delays the onset of ageing and slows the structural and visual aspect of skin photoaging over time by neutralising the overproduction of ROS induced by light radiation.
